Loss and Grief:  Maintaining balance in changing times

with Dr. Patricia Schimdt, DO

Overview:

Loss and grief affect all of us, whether it is through a health crisis, a change in job status, home life, or other significant changes in our lives.  What are some of the physical changes that occur during this period of time? What can we expect with the process that occurs within our own bodies?  When is “stress” really grief?  How do we return to a state of balance and wholeness?

This three-part session by Dr. Patricia Schmidt, DO, a “whole-person doctor”, whose specialties are in Internal Medicine, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine, will provide the listener with opportunities to explore and expand their views on what is occurring with loss and grief in ones life.  Loss and grief are not just about death.   It is about how one is able to live in balance and to grow from the challenge one faces with loss.

Loss and grief are often referred to as a journey, in this teleconference listeners will be take on their own journeys that affect the body, mind and spirit.  It is a journey that  will share information on the loss,  reconciling this loss and acceptance of the loss.  It will be explored

Session One:   This session will explore the definitions of loss and grief and how one is affected by this challenge physically.  Signs and symptoms will be reviewed, with strategies for self-care discussed

Session Two:  This session builds on the definitions of loss and grief, and what happens physically to an individual, with exploration  of what  then occurs emotionally, socially and  spiritually in this process  of healing and recovering balance.

Session Three:  This session is about reclaiming balance with loss and grief.  Discussion about signs and symptoms related to being “stuck in grief” and when we are feeling a “part of us is lost”.  Strategies on ways to “put the pieces back together” will be explored.
