The Occupational Hazards of Healing

The profession of healing can provide some of the most miraculous and intimate experiences of change, transformation, renewal and hope. But this profession can also present experiences that are challenging and that weigh heavy on the person serving as an agent of caring.

In this presentation, Doug will touch upon some of these occupational hazards that we all face so that we can support each other in:
  • the awareness of their impact upon each of us personally. ("A burden shared is halved.")
  • the support for each other in increasing our effectiveness. ("A joy shared is doubled")
  • the truth and practice of discernment as put forth by Ron Roth in his teachings and life.
None of us is capable of going it alone. We need the support of Celebrating Life to help us continue to grow in the Spirit. To do so, we need to be resources for each other in caring for the caregiver.

The intention of this presentation is to foster this Presence.
Doug Abbott is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, an ordained minister with Celebrating Life, and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Connecticut . The main thrust in his years of service is “to go to where the people are”, in the local church, the public school system, the not for profit family counseling center, the hospital and the neighborhood.
